Bookkeeping
with Peak Accountancy Training
Getting started with bookkeeping
The AAT has two levels of bookkeeping qualification: The Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping (Level 2) and The Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping (Level 3)
Completion of the Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping allows you to apply to achieve a professional AAT Bookkeeper status and entitles you to use the designatory letters AATQB.
Completion of the Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping gives you all the knowledge you need to study for the Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Accounting. It is also a great way for anyone who is a more mature student, or who has existing work experience especially in an office environment to enter the AAT qualification.
Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping
The Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping is a qualification that provides an introduction to the principles and practices of bookkeeping. It is a basic level qualification and is suitable for those who are new to the field of bookkeeping or who have limited experience.
The qualification is awarded by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), which is a professional body for accounting technicians. The AAT is internationally recognized and is a leading provider of accounting and finance qualifications.
This qualification includes two units:
- Introduction to Bookkeeping
- Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
These two units assume no previous bookkeeping experience and teach the rules of double entry. By the end of these units you will be able to process business transactions and create a set of accounting records to produce a Trial Balance.
Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping
The Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping is a qualification that builds on the knowledge gained from the Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping. It is designed for individuals who wish to develop their bookkeeping skills further and progress in their careers in the field of accounting and finance.
The Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping is also awarded by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). The qualification consists of two units:
- Financial Accounting : Preparing Financial Statements
- Tax Processes For Business
The knowledge included starts from the production of the trial balance and introduces the adjustments needed to be able to produce a simple set of accounts for a sole trader or a partnership. The Tax processes for Businesses course introduces VAT and students will learn about the fundamental VAT rules and their application. This equips students with the skills needed to be able to produce a VAT return.
Study Support Webinars
To help support students and provide a refresher, we have delivered a webinar on the principles of double entry, it includes processing of transactions, and production of the trial balance. The recording is available here to help any students who would like a recap on this area. This webinar will be useful to all levels of AAT and Bookkeeping students to brush up and recap their double entry bookkeeping knowledge.
